Regarding the hard-won "Srangama Sutra", according to legend, it was a master named Panamitsu who risked his life to bring it to China from India. How did you bring it? After he cut his arm apart, he hid the sutra of Shurangama Sutra inside. After being brought to China, I cut the arm and took out the sutra. There was no way to read the script, because it had become a blood clot. At that time, Fang Rong, the prime minister of the Tang Dynasty, was very worried. His daughter gave him a solution, which was to soak it with milk, the blood stains, and the scripture appeared.

The Shurangama Sutra has special significance in the era of the end of Dharma. It is a touchstone! It is the sword of slashing evil spirits and showing righteousness! There are three points:

The first point is to see through

If you see it, say it. Most people will think you are vulgar. But tell you, if you want to be compassionate, the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas have told us the truth. What do they tell us?

Seeing and hearing are like illusions, and the three realms are like empty flowers. Wen Fu Yi is eradicated, and the dust is clear.

What does this passage mean?

The so-called "seeing and hearing are like illusions": What do we see and hear like? Illusion. Illusion is a white spot in our eyes. Because of this white spot, we see flowers in the sky; in fact, it is because we have stories and problems in our hearts.

The so-called "Three Realms like Konghua": The three realms are like empty flowers, water and moon, they are not real, and the six reincarnations are not real.

The so-called "Wen Fu Yi eradicate": After hearing the Dhamma-impermanence, non-self, and liberation, these things will disappear in smoke.

The so-called "dust-free feeling, roundness and pureness" is the six reincarnations-"there are clearly six interests in the dream, but there is nothing in the dream", this is the truth.

So if you see it through, you have to say it through. But in the marketing process, if you see through and say through, then this person is too vulgar. This is the first point.

The second point is to see through, but not to say through

From the perspective of studying Buddhism, there may be no way to see it through but not to say it, because you don't believe what I said, so I won't say it either. Of course, there are still obscurities, pretending to be profound, seeing through without breaking through, and creating mystery, which is also problematic.

The third point, never say broken

Forever letting you run around without telling you why you want to do this is just fooling around! In our age, there is no shortage of material, spirit, and faith. People have lost themselves in the process of constantly pursuing material. So what are we missing now? Lack of the destination of life. Everyone should be sober.

Today we read the "Srangama Sutra" is the first point-see through and explain: the ultimate goal of Buddhism is liberation, not reincarnation, milk cannot be mixed with water. Milk is milk. What the Buddha said is to tell the truth. Then why did you mix it with water today? Isn't it lack of virtue when mixed with water? But many people do this wicked thing. So you can't be self-righteous, and you can't make mysteries, I hope everyone can understand this truth.

When I was young, I once saw a story, which I remember very clearly. Say that a rich man built a building, in order to let others go to this building, he can sell money, one or two per person, so he wrote four words on it: "It's really interesting." As for the people who went up, there was nothing but "really interesting" at first sight, so they murmured: "Really interesting"... As a result, people from below swarmed. Curiosity killed the cat! Everyone should remember. In our age, if you don’t practice from the heart and look for it from the outside, you are in trouble!

It is said that a person who recites the Buddha has been recitation for many, many years, and he still does not see any good news when he is dying, and then he complains: This Buddha has been recitation for nothing! Because you are not sure of the moment, you always wonder: "How many thousands of Buddhas I have recited, I put it there." Where did you put it? Everything is illusory. It's useless if you don't change your heart. What's the use if you don't solve the problems in your heart?

Reincarnation and cause and effect are all established on the truth of the world. What we are going to learn today is the truth. If we don’t learn the truth, let me tell you, the truth of the world is endless. If we learn the truth, then when we accept causal reincarnation, we will repay or not accept it. Everyone should be sober on this point. Otherwise, if you are tied down by cause and effect every day, you will be scared to death, and you won't be able to get rid of it at all. Therefore, we must all be clear.

2. What does the Shurangama Sutra say?

What does the Shurangama Sutra say? Now let's roughly talk about what each volume of the Shurangama Sutra is talking about?

(1) Volume One

1. The saints gather, the king of Bosni invites the Buddha

2. Ananda begs as equals, and encounters the hardships of modern girls

Let's analyze the first volume of the Shurangama Sutra, because Ananda went to beg for food and pretended to be. Of course, he is a great monk. We must be clear that he later became an Arahant; and later, the leadership of the Sangha was also in Ananda's hands. Venerable Kassapa was Ananda after his death. Ananda is said to have lived for 120 years. It's amazing. However, everyone must understand his experience: you can't smell it too much! Venerable Ananda looks similar to a Buddha. A Buddha has thirty-two aspects, and he has thirty aspects. "If I smell...", when they were assembled, they were all classics mentioned by Ananda, isn't it amazing? But let me tell you, facing the realm, he is finished, and when Maddenjaya is about to invade him, he has no temper at all.

Venerable Ananda begging on an equal footing is the beginning of this story, which is acting.

3. Manjushri Bodhisattva rescues, the Blessed One asks where his mind is

It is seven places to sign the heart.

4. Ananda's seven misunderstandings of his mind

He began to understand slowly, but what did he actually understand? What educates everyone also educates our destined people today. What is the purpose? No gain, nothing. But everyone was not reconciled and fumbled. Think about it, everyone, we are all passing by, don't you believe it? Believe it or not, can you stop? No one will stop.

5. To transcend the cycle of life and death, two fundamentals must be recognized

These two are basically:

"One, the foundation of life and death without beginning. Then you and all sentient beings, with the spirit of climbing, are the self-nature."

We always think that it is me with a sense of climbing. Where are you? Where is the truth of things? no.

"The two, the beginningless bodhi nirvana, the pure body of the yuan. Then the one who is in the present, the one who knows the essence and the Ming, can produce all conditions, and the one left by the conditions. From all living beings, leaving this original Ming, although all day long, without self-consciousness, it is in vain Enter all the fun."

So we lost ourselves and lost our true heart. We practice every day and recite the Buddha every day without waking up, so we have to reincarnate. Why? Because of our duplicity.

6. Delusion that knowledge of the mind is not true, but the foundation of life and death

7. By the blind person's heart, it means that lights have the same eye

I’m telling you, this understanding is the heart! Not our eyes. Today, many people can see what the six reincarnations are, what they can do with their eyes, and what they can do... Tell you, that's a liar. If we are a little wise, we will know what is going on right away.

8. With the help of the guests not staying, Yu Chen shakes, and the present experience is always there.

Not much to say because of time. This is the first volume.

(Two) volume two

1. Although the body has changed, the view of the river remains unchanged, so it is the visible self, which will not be destroyed with the death of oneself

Our body is changing, but our perception is not moving. Today we always think that perception is changing, which is wrong. Think about it, everyone, that emptiness has never changed.

2. All beings are upside down, arbitrarily recognize foreign objects as themselves, and do not know that the physical and mental world is a true illusion

Think of the foreign object as yourself, where is the foreign object yourself? Looking at Zhang San and Li Si, we have differences in our hearts. In fact, we are not true and the outside world is not true. Everyone should be sober. So if we think that the foreign object is ourselves, then we don't know that the physical and mental world is a real illusion; in fact, it is fake, not real.

What is it really? It is the emptiness. Some people say: "Empty is a fixed law?" And emptiness is not a fixed law.

3. Sincerity naturally does not come and go, and your visible self has no place to return.

Our self-nature has nothing to come and go, because the self-nature is empty right now, and everyone should understand. The first volume of the Shurangama Sutra, "Seven Hearts", tells us the truth of things clearly: there is no gain, there is no such truth. Just like "Hundred Theory?" It says in "Sorry for Sins and Fortunes": surrender your sins by blessing, and surrender your blessings by empty space! There was no gain at first, but everyone just tossed about.

The Madhyamaka also tells us: there is no life, no death; no permanence, no cessation; no coming, no going; no oneness, no difference. No! If it is said that there is a cause and condition, it is not a fixed law, so we should not be fooled.

4. The external environment is different in size, internal and external, and distance, but visibility does not change with the external environment.

We have to look at the essence through the phenomenon, and we have to face the reality to refine our hearts; this process of practice has hope.

5. Everything is illusioned by the true heart of the self. There is no question of who is sincere and who is not.

6. Visible self-nature is not natural, nor is it a result of karmic conditions

7. In the reincarnation of sentient beings, there are two kinds of wrong views: the wrong views of different karma and the wrong views of the same share.

8. Visible self is not a result of harmony, nor is it a result of disharmony

Buddhism says that it is "emptiness"-no, but "emptiness" is not without the illusion of dependent origin, but it has no reality, so when we should be responsible, we have to take responsibility even more. This "being" is phantom existence, and "emptiness" is a vacuum, and they are inseparable. We are going to two extremes today: if we say empty, we are not responsible for anything; if we say yes, everything is immutable. These are the two extremes, and these two extremes are the cause of our reincarnation of life and death.

9. The essence of the five aggregates is the subtle truth hidden in the true Tathagata of the self-nature

There are seven ways of concentrating on the mind, eight points of view, and four disciplines are all Tathagata to Tibet. This tells us that everything is Dharma. But if you are enlightened, it is not. If you don’t understand, you will miss it face to face; if you understand, after you understand, your head will be the Dao; if you don’t understand, you will be embarrassed everywhere, so we have to feel it now. This is the second volume.

(Three) Volume Three

1. The six-entry element is the subtle truth of the true heart of the self-nature.

2. The twelve elements are the subtle truths of the true Tathagata of the self-nature

3. The Eighteenth Realm is the subtle truth of the true heart of the self-nature.

4. Consciousness of earth, water, fire and wind

These are all! Those who are enlightened have the Dao in their head; if they don’t, they are in trouble everywhere.

5. Ananda Says Praise to Buddha

This is the third volume.

(Four) Volume Four

1. If you set the Miao Ming's physical nature as the object of your understanding, you will have three inverted continuations of the world, sentient beings, and karma.

Because we don’t understand, there will be reincarnation, and there will be troubles.

2. All phenomena in the world are all vain, no one comes and goes, there is no compatibility and incompatibility, as well as right and wrong statements

3. There is no cause for arrogant birth, and there is nothing to do with arrogant death, but if the three continuity conditions are broken, the madness stopping is the enlightenment and the true heart.

4. The first decisive definition of Bodhicitta: It is necessary to examine and contemplate the origin of the heart from the place and place, and feel the same and different from the fruit place, recognize the five levels of turbid chaos in the body, make the sense of seeing and hearing, and be in harmony with the Tathagata, always happy and pure.

5. The second decisive principle of bodhicitta: You should give up all things, examine the roots of the troubles, and recognize the six roots as the bond between sentient beings and the world, and make the six roots pure and return to the original truth.

6. Hearingness will not change with the birth and death of the sound and dust. If you can abandon the birth and death and keep the truth and the constant light appears, it is the supreme enlightenment.

We can only briefly introduce these. This is the fourth volume.

(5) Volume 5

1. The roots and dust are the same, liberation and bondage are not two, knowing, seeing and knowing is ignorance, and knowing and seeing nothing is nirvana without omission.

2. When the knot of the six elements is untied, and the one said is dead, it can return to the pure mind

"The knots of the six elements are solved", we said at noon that the Buddha Shakyamuni used the turban of robbing the paradise, and then knotted it with six knots. If the six knots are untied; "Death", the sixth is not real at all, and the first is also not real, so you can return to your pure mind.

3. Twenty-four major disciples each stated their practice

Adding Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva's ear root Yuantong in the sixth volume is twenty-five Yuantong. Studying Buddhism is not a fixed method. It does not mean that I study the Pure Land and deny other methods. Of course, if we don’t understand other methods, and then we deny the Pure Land Method, then we are in trouble, and then we are really creating karma. Moreover, the Pure Land Method is universally easy for every sentient being. This is the fifth volume.

(6) Volume 6

1. Guanshiyin Bodhisattva's ear root Yuantong method

Here is also telling us that the Shurangama Sutra is both pure land and Zen, and at the same time tantric and law school (that is, precepts), so it includes four sects.

Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva's ear root Yuantong Dharma, it tells us a truth, this truth comes from the scriptures. The scripture says: "The public and Ananda, turn you back to hear the opportunity", that is, we look back, ask ourselves, and look at ourselves. Now many of us do not look at ourselves; , This verse is infinitely useful to us. Therefore, the Shurangama Sutra has benefited us a lot.

When he was a monk, an old monk studied the Shurangama Sutra every day, and he studied it so that he sat there for a while laughing, and dancing for a while. We thought that the old monk was sick, but in the end we discovered that we were all sick. The old monk was a sober person. This is very rare.

2. Manjushri's comment on the practice of the twenty-fifth sanctuary

3. To cut off the killing of adultery, pure and clear teaching

We have to break these things, and it is impossible to keep going. If we keep going, we cannot get rid of it. Therefore, "seeing and hearing are like illusions, and the three realms are like empty blooms. Wenfu is eradicated, and the dust is clear." What is seen in the outside world cannot restrain us, but what restrains us is our attachment to the outside world, our own illness. , So we must cut off our inner attachments.

Why are you persistent in your heart? Because there is temptation outside, there is temptation outside, and the inside is unsettled. This instability is actually a delusion. In fact, the delusion is not real. We need to know that the outside world is dependently arising, we are also dependently arising, the mind is also dependently generated, and that the mind is unavailable. If it is not available, we are at ease; but if we are unwilling, unwilling, there will be a lot of problems. This is the sixth volume.

(7) Volume 7

1. Rules for establishing the Shurangama Dojo

In fact, it is to establish a "mandala", which is Tantra.

"Originally, there are no sentient beings in the world, but because of delusion, there is life." The three generations and the four directions are in harmony, and the changes are formed into twelve types." The twelve types of sentient beings are derived from this, and we must understand this principle. This is the seventh volume.

(8) Volume 8

1. To cultivate samadhi and eliminate the causes of inversion, three steps must be taken

These three kinds of steps are, "One, practice, except for its help. The two, true cultivation, and its righteousness. The three, increase, go against its current karma." In the final analysis, it is our greed and love. Dye, this is to solve the fundamental problem.

(9) Volume 9

What is magic? The devil is the killer, with all kinds of temptations. This kind of killer, it will appear in a variety of phenomena we like very much, instead of saying that it comes with teeth and claws, then we may escape. It may appear as something that makes us very comfortable. We have to understand that the devil does not necessarily have that kind of terrifying and hideous appearance.

8. Ten kinds of demons who want to yinquyu

This is the content of fifty yin demons. If you really take a look at the fifty kinds of yin demons, tell you, they are all demons and ghosts, and none of them are in a decent state. The realm of monsters and ghosts, what is the final result? Life is suffering, and death falls to hell! On the surface, it is booming for a while and it is very lively, but it is troublesome and has endless troubles. So don't be curious, don't be fooled, don't pursue supernatural powers, there are ghosts and gods! Let us not think that "this ghost and god has magical powers." If we learn, we will become ghosts and gods. Ghosts and gods are beings of ghosts and Dao, I tell you, there will be endless troubles. Then learn from heaven and human? The good news is limited, everyone should pay attention! This is the ninth volume.

(10) Volume 10

1. Ten evil views of the outside world in Yuli, Xingyin District

4. Receiving the merits of the Shurangama Sutra

Of course, the ninth and tenth volumes mainly talk about fifty kinds of evil demons. After watching fifty kinds of yin demons, I spoke with confidence, because I said there, where there are disasters, and where is the end. That was the story that year, so I told it with confidence, because my conscience didn't mean I was great. I suddenly discovered that Buddha Shakyamuni is really amazing! However, how many people lost themselves that year, shouldn't we ask ourselves at this time? Therefore, if the conscience of a Buddhist is there, then you should persevere and persevere. "Because the place is not true, the result is not true." Even if many people read it, they often read it for nothing; of course, they don't read it for nothing, but remember that the prajna is just a tool, and it doesn't make sense to use it. This is the tenth volume.

3. Cultivating the habit of liberation starts from reading the Shurangama Sutra

Even so, the "Srangama Sutra" says: It is possible to realize it, and things must be fixed gradually.

The Shurangama Sutra says, "Evil teachers say like sand on the Ganges", so what should we do? It is not easy to integrate into the habit, at least Mr. Liang Qichao said:

What changes life is not reason, but habit.

Mr. Liang Qichao is a Buddhist. Tell you, he is an authentic Buddhist, a layman, and a very good lay Buddhist! I think this sentence is very beneficial to me. Who doesn't understand the truth? Even a three-year-old child knows how to respect others, such as paying attention to hygiene... But it is very strange to tell you that adults don't understand something. Therefore, it is not reason, but habit.

It's not that reason is useless, but it's bad habits.

For example, every one of us, the habit and the karma since the beginning, come with habitual problems, so we are all stubborn and uncomfortable. When others say a few words, we feel very uncomfortable. When others speak harshly, they define others: this is not merciful, and that is not merciful. Are you compassionate? You change it! It's not good again. Just like we are listening to the teachings here, some people have to turn on their mobile phones. Turning on the mobile phone will affect others. You don’t think about it. It’s self-willed. This is a bad habit.

If you sow an action, reap a habit; sow a habit, reap a character; sow a character, reap a destiny.

If you sow a right view, then what you gain is liberation. We don’t have right view, how can we be free? If it is said that the Master is irresponsible, he can also close his eyes and love it. But we have a conscience! If we don’t change the perceptions of sentient beings, and don’t influence them to learn according to the Buddha, then we will lose our conscience, and we will have no conscience. I personally feel that one of the biggest problems in studying Buddhism is conscience. If you don’t have a conscience, don’t learn Buddhism.

Everyone said, "I study Buddhism, I study Buddhism!" "What is Buddhism?" "I don't know." No one even knows who Buddhism is, what kind of Buddhism do you learn? You treat that Amao and Agou as Buddhas, are they Buddhists? Not a Buddhist, that's just a joke.

It can be seen that habits are the cornerstone of our lives. Studies have shown that repetition of more than 21 days will form a habit, and repetition of 90 days will form a stable habit of its own.

For example, there are Buddhists who have to read the Shurangama Mantra in the morning at home every day. I am very touched how many times I have read it. I am also touched how many people worship Buddha every day in the morning. He is used to it and will not worship him. Sad! So he will become a habit more than 21 days, and 90 days of repetition will form his own stable habit.

So I tell you, don't recite Buddha there. If you look at an idea, an idea, or something, you will immediately follow it. This is not a good habit. The real Buddhism affects us, and we should stay as it is, otherwise it will not be convincing.

Once a habit occurs, it will affect people's subconscious, and then unknowingly change your behavior.

"Zhao Lun Shu" quoted the words of "Lao Tzu" to explain the "Zhao Lun" "The cause of the cause is not divided into survival or death, the corporal caress for the palm of the hand and caress": "The sergeant listens to the Tao, and works diligently; the sergeant hears the Tao, if Survival; the corporal laughs when he hears the message. Not smiling is not enough."

What's the meaning? It means that the people who have the roots hear this Dharma and act immediately and change them; when the sergeant hears it, the people who are the middle root device hear it, and they are dubious. After that, he laughed: "What is this? This is nothing!" So to tell you, the food must be given to the hungry, and the Dharma must be given to the sensible! Regarding Buddhist chanting, Master Yinguang said: “Reciting the Buddha can eliminate the karma, and you can turn your mortal mind with your dedication.” Piousness is very important. If you are not sincere, it is useless if you are not sincere. It is called self-deception.

Our practice still has to come back to reality. If we don't come back to reality, talking loudly and divorcing from reality will have no effect.

Someone asked Buddha Shakyamuni, "Why am I poor?" The Buddha answered him, "Because you have not learned to give to others."

Of course someone said: I have ten "God of Wealth" in my house; I have six "crystal balls"; I have a bunch of "Pixiu beasts"; I also have two "fortune trees"! That's no use, it's deception, it's self-deception.

Poor: "I have nothing, how can I give it?"

Means: I have nothing, how can I give it?

The Buddha said: "A person can give others seven things without having anything."

Therefore, people are not afraid of being poor, they are afraid of not being motivated, and once they are motivated, there will always be hope. Which seven things are these seven things?

(1) Yan Shi means doing things with a smile

It is to help others with a smile, and to face social life with a smile.

(2) Words, words of praise and comfort to others

Of course, there are other words, such as fearless words, that is, the fearlessness of wealth, dharma, and fearlessness.

(3) Be kind, open your heart and be kind to others

Be magnanimous with people, don't bend around. Our Buddhists sometimes speak unclearly and say half a sentence; they do things in a mess and are unsatisfactory; they hit the nail on the head and are particularly transparent. Without this feeling, they talk a lot of nonsense when they speak. So, we are going to learn this! Heart-to-heart, open your heart and be kind to others, concise and concise.

(4) Eye-giving, kindly insight to others

When all beings are suffering, and when they are suffering, it is also very troublesome if we always look at others with evil eyes.

(5) Acting to help others with actions

You can do it without money and strength, such as helping others push carts.

(6) Seating, give up your seat

For example, on a bus, give up your seat. Just like when our Buddhists listen to the scriptures, you give your position to others, and you try. Some Buddhists not only refused to give up, but they also took up some positions. Really, sometimes, I think: I have learned this way when I study Buddhism? Probably it doesn't correspond to the Dharma. What's the use of speculation, quick success and quick gains, and taking advantage?

(7) Housing, with a tolerant heart

This belongs to the mind. Of course, it is even more difficult for others to settle down.

The reason why people suffer is because we have too many wrong things in our hearts.

A person who has realized it can be blessed for a lifetime and a lifetime; can't realize it? The foundation is still shallow, and there is no hope of liberation.

The purpose of studying Buddhism is to tell everyone that it is still a liberation, not that I am prosperous and wealthy today. You are prosperous and wealthy, and one day you will have to say goodbye, not forever, nothing! The believer said that if we pray for this or that, we can do whatever it takes. It doesn't matter, we can also wish you success.

Buddhism also has induction. We have never doubted it, but we can't talk about induction every day and talk about magical powers. In that case, it would be misleading to Buddhism. Yes, but it is a process, not forever, and liberation is the fundamental!

Therefore, after reading the Shurangama Sutra, I hope that everyone will establish a firm righteous knowledge and right view, and use it as a mirror, touchstone, and then to break the evil and show righteousness. First of all, you must break yourself, don't be suspicious, turn black and white, if you don't have right knowledge and right view, then it will definitely not work.

When the outside world, evil knowledge and evil views invade the righteous knowledge of Buddhism, let me tell you that we should stand up without hesitation! "I'm telling you, yours is evil knowledge and evil views!" Righteousness is awe-inspiring, there is Buddhism and there are ways! Otherwise, let me tell you that in this era full of evil knowledge and evil views, there is no hope for Buddhism.

We also hope that reading the Shurangama Sutra is not in vain, although this text is not the ultimate goal, but to cultivate this habit, we have to start here. It is a tool, a bridge, and a bond. Without it, it won’t work, and being attached to it won’t work. What should we do? Good at using, good at transforming, good at curing one's own habits, and good at observing people and things around him. If we do not tell a story about Buddhism clearly today, it will inevitably lead to misunderstandings among people in society.

Four, concluding remarks
